Newcastle United’s struggle in the summer transfer window was well documented.
The Magpies failed in their attempts to sign Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and had to sell promising duo Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson.
Now, it’s also just emerged that they missed out on two players who have just been announced as Barcelona’s new signings.

Newcastle were trying to sign David Oduro and Abdul Aziz Issah
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Newcastle United were trying to sign Ghanaian teenagers David Oduro and Abdul Aziz Issah during the summer transfer window.
They weren’t alone in their pursuit as Premier League rivals Chelsea were also vying for their signatures but Barcelona have now won the race.
Barca Athletic, the B team, announced the Ghanians on X yesterday, indicating that they won’t be involved in first-team action just yet.
So, perhaps there’s an opportunity to do a loan deal in January, although, Newcastle probably wouldn’t entertain that now.
Newcastle should prioritise a centre-back and winger in January
Newcastle are in desperate need of a centre-back and a right winger, so that should be their full focus during the January transfer window.
The Magpies could reignite interest in Guehi and perhaps even Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga, who they submitted a £50m bid for at the end of August.
Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo should also be considered as he continues to be a talismanic figure in a lower-half side.
