Everton are trying to make a late play to sign Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Manchester United talent is a wanted man in January and it was only hours ago that Romano suggested he was on his way to Sevilla on loan.

However, Romano has a further update on the situation and now suggests that Everton are trying to ‘hijack’ the deal to send Hannibal to La Liga.

Toffees boss Sean Dyche is working with a tight budget this winter and knows it will be loans who make up his signings.

And it looks like the Everton boss is now trying to get Hannibal from United.

Taking to social media just now, Romano has posted to say that Everton are looking to beat Sevilla to the punch and that in the end, it could come down to the player where this one goes.

This is quite the turn up for the books, given it looked like Mejbri was on his way to Spain not so long ago.

It shows how quick things can change in football and Everton will hope the lure of Premier League football puts them ahead here.

Lauded as a ‘phenomenal‘ talent after impressing on loan at Birmingham City, Hannibal now needs to kick on and show he can do it at a higher level.

The youngster might have hoped for more chances this season at Old Trafford. But that doesn’t look like happening and it’s now up to him if he seeks football elsewhere.

Both Sevilla and Everton bring different challenges for Hannibal. The lure of Spain is a tempting one, given the more relaxed approach to the game.

However, if Hannibal really wants to test himself then playing under Dyche for Everton might be the way forward.

The Toffees are well out of trouble now and should pick up plenty of points between now and May.
