‘Touch and go’: 25-year-old Newcastle United attacker a real doubt to play against Fulham now – journalist

Newcastle United attacker Allan Saint-Maximin is now a real doubt to play against Fulham this weekend, according to football journalist Luke Edwards

The Magpies have been hit with injuries over the international break as both Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak have flown back to Tyneside

Chris Wood also suffered a rib injury during New Zealand’s game against Australia yesterday.

And now it seems that Saint-Maximin could miss the trip to Fulham on Saturday and his situation has been described as ‘touch and go’.

Saint-Maximin real doubt to play against Fulham

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards claims Newcastle are confident Guimaraes will play at Craven Cottage this weekend

But Saint-Maximin is currently ‘unlikely’ to make the trip down to London as he is still recovering from an injury he suffered against Wolves.

The 25-year-old scored a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw at Molineux but was forced to come off with a hamstring injury.

Reports had suggested this week that both Wilson and Saint-Maximin were hoping to be fit for this weekend’s clash.

But it seems that Wilson is further ahead in his recovery than the French winger at this moment in time.

Saint-Maximin was in brilliant form for Eddie Howe’s side before suffering the setback against Wolves.

The former OGC Nice man had scored one goal and provided two assists in four appearances for the Magpies.

Howe will be hoping to get Saint-Maximin back to full fitness as soon as possible with a busy schedule around the corner before the World Cup next month.

Newcastle have been unfortunate during the international break, with concerns looming over three players.

But it will be a big boost for Howe to have Callum Wilson back this weekend, especially as Isak is set for a spell on the sidelines.
