Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has joked that he’s ‘going to kick’ Son Heung-min before the World Cup in Qatar next month.

The biggest tournament in world football is set to begin in just over a month’s time and the excitement is building up. A number of players from Tottenham will make the trip to Qatar – including Son and Bentancur.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar is set to begin on the 20th of November. The groups have already been made and Bentancur’s Uruguay and Son’s South Korea have been grouped together along with Portugal and Ghana.

Even though Portugal and Uruguay are the favourites to go through, it’s a really tricky group, and there could well be a surprise or two there.

Bentancur, branded as ‘fantastic’ by Eric Dier, is aware of that and is taking the game against South Korea very seriously. He even joked that he wants to hurt Son a bit by kicking him – just so that he won’t be at his best against Uruguay.

The midfielder told ESPN Argentina: “We always mess around a bit, he is a crack as a player and as a person.

“I always tell him that a week before I’m going to kick him so he can get to the World Cup half lame, but fine.

“I am honoured to have him as a partner and he is a great person.”

Son is undoubtedly one of the best players in the Premier League, but the South Korean has had a really poor season so far.

The 30-year-old has scored just three goals in 11 games this term – all of which came in the same game. He has looked nothing like himself in the other fixtures, which has been a worry for Spurs supporters.

After a terrible result last weekend in the derby against Arsenal, Tottenham will have to bounce back. With Dejan Kulusevski still out, Son is almost guaranteed to start, and he’d love nothing more than to get back to his goalscoring best.

Tottenham take on Brighton this evening and it will be interesting to see how they respond.
