Report: Tottenham's 'superb' player has a brand new injury problem; could miss season opener with Southampton
Tottenham might have enjoyed a good work out against Rangers today but not everything is going swimmingly for Antonio Conte’s men.
Despite playing all of his new signings in the win over the Gers, Conte was still without a couple of players who can be considered first-teamers. Both Ben Davies and Oliver Skipp missed the game, and there is reason to be concerned for the Spurs boss when it comes to midfielder Skipp.
After missing a big chunk of last term with a pelvic injury, Football London has reported that Skipp now has a brand new injury which kept him out of the game with Rangers. Although it’s described as a ‘minor issue’, it remains to be seen just how minor that issue is for Skipp and Spurs.
In the worst case scenario, the midfielder could even miss out on the season opener against Southampton in just a few weeks’ time. Of course, Skipp might well return before then, with a home friendly against Roma next week likely to indicate how he’s getting along.
Tottenham fans, and Conte, then, will be hoping Skipp can recover quickly and be fighting fit from the off.
TBR’s View: Skipp Needs A Big Season With Tottenham
Conte is said to be a fan of Oliver Skipp just like Jose Mourinho was but this is a big season for the ex-Norwich loanee.
Skipp needs to show he can mix it and stay in the team with Tottenham making so many new signings. The likes of Bissouma will be pushing for his place, while Rodrigo Bentancur also impressed after signing in January.
If the ‘superb‘ Skipp is to miss the season opener and give someone else a chance, it could be a long way back. Hopefully, for both the player and Spurs, it’s nothing to worry about.
