Tottenham’s chances of getting Mauricio Pochettino to replace Ange Postecoglou assessed as fans chant his name

Considering Tottenham Hotspur were flying under Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs fans still seem to have a special place for the Argentine in his heart despite him moving to their eternal rivals Chelsea.

Tottenham fans chanted Pochettino’s name against Aston Villa in response to the Villa Park faithful mocking Ange Postecoglou and his job security during their 2-1 defeat in the FA Cup — which highlights the incredible legacy the US national team manager left behind in N17.

Meanwhile, things have gone from bad to worse for the Lilywhites under Postecoglou and unless Tottenham win the Europa League, their season can be considered a complete and utter shambles.

Apart from Spurs’ recent cup exits, if they fail to beat Manchester United on the weekend, the North Londoners could fall below 14th place in the Premier League as well.

Chris Sutton feels Tottenham should re-hire Mauricio Pochettino on a short-term deal as he has previously elevated the club from a dark place.

There is no questioning that if Pochettino did return to Spurs, it would give their supporters an incredible lift after what has been a gut-wrenching season under Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham fans told Mauricio Pochettino will not take Spurs job

Tottenham fans are justifiably frustrated, with Jamie O’Hara calling for Postecoglou’s sacking after his former club lost to Aston Villa.

But Ramon Vega has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino simply will not accept the Tottenham job due to his commitments to the United States side while criticising the board for failing to build a successful long-term project.

“There’s no point in calling for [Mauricio] Pochettino. 1. He is already contracted and committed to the US Men’s national team and it would be disrespectful both to the US Men’s national team and to him. 2. He was sacked without proper support after achieving the remarkable feat of reaching the Champions League final in Madrid.”

“This was a significant opportunity to establish a real football project, but the board missed the chance and failed to support him. We are currently facing the revolving issue for years a lack of genuine support in the football department. Changing Ange [Postecoglou] will not solve anything. The solution lies in changing the mentality and commitment at the top regarding football.”

Ramon Vega has a point as Mauricio Pochettino is deemed unlikely to join Tottenham as he is already employed.

But Ange Postecoglou looks drained at Tottenham and it is important for Daniel Levy to decide whether to keep the faith in him or cut ties with the former Celtic boss.

Tottenham decided Ange Postecoglou’s future before loss to Aston Villa

Ange Postecoglou’s job is on the line as it was believed that a defeat to Aston Villa could put his future as Tottenham boss in jeopardy.

The report stated that Spurs’ investment in the winter window was an indicator that Daniel Levy trusts the 59-year-old.

Ange Postecoglou also wishes to be handed the required time to bed in the likes of Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso.

But it seems like Tottenham’s board decided Postecoglou’s fate even before their latest outing.

With that being the case, all eyes will be on how Tottenham react against Manchester United.

Tottenham’s players were reportedly behind Postecoglou but actions speak louder than words and they will have to back their manager by turning up against United.
