Tottenham are close to signing Djed Spence from Middlesbrough and Fabrizio Romano has offered some more details on the deal.

Spence looks finally set to complete his move to Spurs after weeks and going back and forth between the clubs. Boro have been hanging on to get the best deal possible while Tottenham and Fabio Paratici have not wanted to bullied into paying over the odds.

In the meantime, Spence has made it clear that he wanted the move and has had to wait patiently. However, his day seems to have come now and according to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs will pay a set fee of around £12.5m, before committing to more add-ons to take the deal to just below the £20m mark.

Spence’s arrival at Tottenham will tick off a box for Antonio Conte when it comes to that right wing-back slot. He has wanted someone like Spence all summer, and the England youngster will now be tasked with making the step up into the PL after such a fine season last term.

For the likes of Emerson Royal and Matty Doherty, it could bring their future into the spotlight. Both have been touted as potential sales, and Spence’s arrival will only increase that sort of talk.

TBR’s View: Spence With Work To Do To Get Going At Tottenham

If Djed Spence has anything about him, he’ll have taken note of the gruelling fitness sessions Conte has been putting his Spurs player through and trying to keep up.

If he goes into his not expecting the hardest of work ahead, then he will fail. Everyone sees the talent is there with Spence, it’s just a case of him doing it at a higher level and with more consistency.

Tottenham have made a good signing here, but Spence himself now needs to prove to everyone why he was so in-demand.
