The name of Sven Botman was mentioned more than once during January, with clubs such as Newcastle and Tottenham reportedly keen on the Dutch international.

In the end, though, Botman stayed put in Lille, where the French club wants to keep hold of their man and look to sell him in the summer if the opportunity arises again. Indeed, Botman was said to be considered PIF and Newcastle’s ‘dream signing’ right when the window first opened.

However, while Newcastle no doubt remains keen, so does Tottenham. And with Spurs, AC Milan are also set to keep their interest in Botman alive. That’s according to SportMediaset anyway, who claim that an auction of sorts is already underway for the impressive Lille ace.

Botman, 21, is expected to cost big money. Reports prior to January claimed a bid of around £40m would be needed, and nothing seems to have changed too much since then. The Dutch defender has been on the radar of English clubs for some time. Indeed, he was considered by Liverpool last season before they went for Ibrahima Konate.

TBR’s View: Botman And Romero Partnership Is Stuff Of Dreams

Cristian Romero already looks absolutely brilliant for Tottenham so the thought of him with Sven Botman alongside is a salivating one for Spurs fans.

Botman really does look the real deal. He often looks in cruise control playing for Lille and is more than ready to make the step up into what will be deemed a higher quality league in the PL.

Tottenham would be a good fit. However, don’t count out Newcastle. They have money to spend and if they stay up, then we can all expect PIF to throw huge cash at things.
