Report: Newcastle now making big push to sign PIF's 'dream' signing, but club are desperate to keep him
Newcastle United have made a new and improved bid for Lille defender Sven Botman, according to a report from The Athletic this morning.
Botman has emerged as a key transfer target for Newcastle in recent weeks. The Lille star is widely-regarded as one of the best up and coming defenders in Europe. Reports this week had claimed Newcastle had already seen a bid rejected for Botman.
However, The Athletic now states that the Magpies have gone again for the Dutchman. There is no mention of the fee, but Lille have previously been touted as wanted around the £40m mark for Botman. And with clubs aware that Newcastle have money to spend, that price could well be met.
Botman was a key player for Lille as they beat PSG to the Ligue 1 title. However, he’s been tipped for a move away for some time now. Premier League clubs have watched him, while AC Milan are also keen on signing him.
Newcastle have also been linked with Sevilla’s Diego Carlos, after announcing Kieran Trippier this morning.
TBR’s View: Botman And Carlos Would Be Perfect For Newcastle
If Newcastle land just one of Botman or Carlos it will prove successful. But if they get both, then PIF deserve massive credit.
Botman is one of the Premier young defenders in Europe at the moment. He is highly-courted and could well be one of the very best with some more experience behind him.
Of course, £40m is a big fee. But if Newcastle stay up, it’s also a bit of a bargain as well. Botman is, after all, considered to be a ‘dream signing’ for PIF.
