Report: Tottenham were meant to announce sixth summer signing today, but there’s a problem

Tottenham fans might be forgiven for thinking their club needs to announce a new signing every week, given the frantic summer so far.

However, as Monday ticks to a close, Spurs have not yet announced the signing of Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence, despite a deal being agreed with the Championship club. After tracking Spence for most of the summer, Fabio Paratici finally got his breakthrough last week.

Tottenham are set to pay around £20m for Spence, with £12.5m of that said to be coming up front. However, while the deal might be all but done, there has been a minor sticking point in proceedings.

According to Football.London’s report from yesterday, there has been a hiccup when it comes to processing the paperwork for Spence to complete his move to Tottenham. And while it’s claimed that it shouldn’t be an issue, both Spence and the Spurs fans will be eagerly awaiting confirmation.

Spence will become Tottneham’s sixth signing of the summer should he complete his move. But just like fellow new man Clement Lenglet, the full-back will have some catching up to do with fitness after missing the gruelling tour of South Korea.

TBR’s View: Tottenham Keeping Fans Waiting On Spence

Look, Spence is going to be a Tottenham player. As FL reports, he’s even carried out media duties and been pictured in the Spurs shirt. So there shouldn’t – in theory – be an issue.

However, there is always that nagging doubt for fans that something will go awry. Especially so with this one, given Boro have played hardball over the deal for so long.

So, it’s on to Tuesday then for Tottenham fans when it comes to Djed Spence. Hopefully, they finally get that all important announcement.
