Tottenham wary of offering new contract to ‘incredible’ £27m player Postecoglou would be happy to keep

Tottenham Hotspur are currently wary of offering Giovani Lo Celso a new contract in North London, with the midfielder’s current deal set to expire in 2025.

That is according to a report from 90min, which notes that Ange Postecoglou would be happy for the Argentinian to stay beyond the January window amid interest from Barcelona.

Giovani Lo Celso looks to be one Tottenham player to keep an eye on heading into the January transfer window. After finding himself out of favour and loaned out under Antonio Conte, Lo Celso has been back in the fold under Ange Postecoglou.

Nevertheless, there is interest in Lo Celso from Barcelona. And Tottenham will be factoring in that his current contract has just over 18 months left to run. So there will be a question mark over his future.

90min reports that Postecoglou is a fan of Lo Celso and would be happy to keep him. But Tottenham are wary of offering him a new contract given that he has struggled with injury previously and there is plenty of interest in him.

Spurs face a tricky decision

Tottenham spent £27 million to sign Lo Celso. So on current evidence, it is hard to imagine that they can expect to make their money back. And his valuation is probably only likely to decrease as he edges closer and closer to being a free agent.

That may come into their thinking if they receive a decent offer in January. But he does have the talent to be an ‘incredible‘ player. And given how thin their squad is, they may feel that they are better off keeping Lo Celso until the summer and reassessing the situation then.
