Giovani Lo Celso is the name at the top of Xavi’s wishlist heading into the January transfer window, with Barcelona interested in the Tottenham Hotspur star.

That is according to a report from Sport, which notes that the Spurs midfielder would be open to making the move to Catalonia after struggling for minutes so far this season.

Giovani Lo Celso may be one player hoping for a move in January. He returned to the fold after spending much of Antonio Conte’s spell in charge out on loan.

Barcelona have reignited their interest in Lo Celso after losing Gavi to a serious injury. Spurs meanwhile, want to keep the 27-year-old for the second-half of the season.

But Xavi may not be ready to accept Tottenham’s stance. Sport is now reporting that Lo Celso is the Barca boss’ top target for the middle of the park for the January window. His versatility makes him a particularly appealing option.

Much can change by the January window

Lo Celso could have a bigger role to play for Spurs over the coming weeks. James Maddison is unlikely to play for Tottenham again before the January transfer window opens. So that could mean that the Argentinian does see more game-time.

Lo Celso has impressed on international duty with Argentina in this break. And perhaps the links with Barcelona will motivate him even more, which may benefit Spurs in the coming weeks.

He has the potential to be ‘incredible‘. But Barcelona will also be aware that they are going to have to make a pretty good offer if they expect Tottenham to consider letting Lo Celso leave in the January transfer window.
