Tottenham still want to sign Inter Milan midfielder, Nicolo Barella, but face an uphill task to do so, according to reports in Italy.
Calciomercato has claimed that Barella is firmly on the radar of Antonio Conte at Tottenham. The Italian manager is thought to be keen on a reunion with the Inter star, who helped Conte’s side to the Scudetto. However, as things stand, Barella has no intention of leaving Milan.
Calciomercato writes how the 25-year-old has every intention of staying with Inter and competing for league titles and cups. That will be a bitter blow to Conte, who once again made a plea to the board this weekend to add new faces.

Conte’s interest in Barella goes back some time. Indeed, Spurs have been linked with a move for the midfielder as recently as September. Barella is also a player admired by Jurgen Klopp. The Liverpool manager labelled the Inter star as ‘top class’, insisting he is a ‘really really good player‘ ahead of a clash between the Reds and Inter in Europe.
Inter are thought to value Barella highly, meaning any deal would be a huge outlay for Spurs anyway. As it stands right now, then, it seems a move for Barella can be ruled out.
TBR’s View: Barella Perfect For Tottenham
When you look at midfield players in Europe who could improve Tottenham under Conte, you don’t really have to look much further than Nicolo Barella.
The Inter star is quite the player and it’s little surprise he is so highly-rated by Jurgen Klopp. He is key for Inter, and proves it week in, week out.
For Spurs, this is the sort of ambitious signing that takes them to a new level but right now, it looks like other targets will be needed. Barella will be mentioned again at some point, but a deal does look difficult.
