Tottenham Transfer News: Josko Gvardiol update emerges that could impact Harry Kane
Tottenham are very keen on signing young Croatia defender Josko Gvardiol this summer but it might only happen if they sell Harry Kane.
That’s according to German football expert Christian Falk anyway, who writes in his latest column for CaughtOffside about Gvardiol and Kane.
Tottenham could sell Kane to raise funds
Falk writes in his column how Gvardiol is a major target for Spurs and Chelsea. However, it could impact the future of Harry Kane.
As we know, Bayern Munich are keen on signing Kane. And according to Falk, the German club will be watching developments closely.
“Harry Kane is still the top target for Bayern Munich in the forward department. They’re aware of how difficult it is to sign an English player from England, but he hasn’t signed a new contract yet, which means there’s still hope,” Falk said.
“Also, in Munich, they heard about the rumours from Leipzig around Josko Gvardiol. The club have said he’ll stay in the summer but we heard that Christopher Vivell of Chelsea knocked on the door to try and get him either in the winter (they said ‘no’) or the summer.
“I think there will be some activity in the summer and here’s the connecting point to the Kane rumours: Tottenham are still very keen on Gvardiol, so Bayern are banking on some movement there, as Tottenham need money to buy Gvardiol. They’ll have to sell Kane if he doesn’t extend his contract; if they can agree a deal with Bayern, or Real Madrid perhaps, there will then be money for Gvardiol.”
TBR’s View: Selling Kane is a disaster for Tottenham
There might come a time when Daniel Levy simply has to cash in on Harry Kane. But what an absolute nightmare that would be for the club.
If Spurs lose Kane, they’re losing a world class striker who is simply irreplaceable. Yes, they might get around £100m for Kane but we saw with the Gareth Bale transfer that it doesn’t always mean much.
Signing Josko Gvardiol would be a good piece of business. But it would only be good business if Spurs kept hold of Kane and others in the process. Selling Kane to make room and funds for signings like Gvardiol, would go down like a lead balloon with Spurs fans.
