Tottenham transfer news: Spurs lining up £20m bid for Piero Hincapie

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to make a bid of around £20 million in their push to sign Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen, according to a report from The Sun.

Spurs have, so far, held off on making any moves in the January transfer window. But with their rivals moving, it would be no surprise to see Fabio Paratici step up his pursuit of players in the coming days.

The Sun reports that Tottenham will hold further talks over Pedro Porro this coming week. And it seems that they may be ready to make an opening offer for Hincapie.

Tottenham ready to make £20m bid for Hincapie

Previous reports from the Daily Mirror have suggested that Leverkusen value Hincapie at around £34 million. But it seems that Spurs are ready to offer considerably less.

According to The Sun, Tottenham are lining up a £20 million move. But they may be willing to loan the Ecuador international back to the Bundesliga side for the rest of the season.

It is not clear whether Leverkusen would have any interest in such a bid. But you would imagine that they would be open to a compromise over the fee if it meant that he stayed until the summer.

Tottenham do not need to rush a deal across the line. Clement Lenglet is on loan for the rest of the season. And he has shown that he is a very capable defender.

Hincapie is only 21. So it would be asking a lot of him to expect him to settle in quickly during the January transfer window. So agreeing a deal for the summer would make a lot of sense.

The only issue may be what a move this month would mean for their budget. Tottenham do need signings to hit the ground running this month.

But Hincapie looks to be a special talent. FBRef compares him with Cristian Romero amongst others. So it would certainly be a coup for Tottenham to agree a deal – whenever that is.
