Tottenham Transfer News: Loan option emerges in Piero Hincapie pursuit

Tottenham are looking for new players in the January transfer window and could make their move to sign Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen.

Hincapie has emerged as one of the top young defenders in Europe. His performances in Germany have caught the eye, while he did himself no harm with some good displays in the World Cup.

Those performances have seen a number of clubs linked. Chelsea are thought to like Hincapie, while Tottenham have been credited in the past with being interested as well.

And now, according to The Mirror, Tottenham’s interest could be firmed up further. The Mirror writes how Tottenham could move for Hincapie this move and if they do, loan him back to Leverkusen for now. However, there is a caveat in there that says Spurs would prefer a summer move.

Hincapie, 20, ticks the boxes for Spurs in terms of their search for a left-footed centre-back. Described in his homeland as being a ‘really impressive’ player, Tottenham have liked him for some time.

Leverkusen are thought to value Hincapie around the £34m mark. Whether or not Spurs can meet that while they chase Pedro Porro at the same time, however, remains to be seen.

TBR’s View: Hincapie a good long-term investment for Tottenham

There’s no doubting Tottenham need to strengthen their defence in the next few windows and Hincapie is certainly a player they should be keen on.

Everyone who saw Hincapie over in Qatar will have seen how good he is. And he’s at a great age to develop into a really top defender at a big European club.

Once again, it will come down to how much Spurs want to back Conte and how much they want to spend. £34m isn’t that much nowadays for a top defender. And if Hincapie arrives as well as Porro, then things will be looking up for the North Londoners.
