Report: Tottenham will sign 'outstanding' record holding star next week, he's already said goodbye to teammates

Tottenham will make their move to sign Southampton goalkeeper, Fraser Forster, in the next week, according to a report from The Athletic.

Spurs are looking to secure a solid back up option for Hugo Lloris and have reportedly put Forster top of their list, with talks set to intensify after this weekend’s final fixture against Norwich. The Athletic reports how Forster is set to miss Southampton’s final game and has already said goodbye to his teammates this week.

Reports of Tottenham’s interest in Forster emerged this week. The 34-year-old England stopper has had an outstanding campaign with Southampton, and – per The Athletic – he even holds the record at the club for most clean-sheets in a season with 14, which he achieved in 2015.

However, Alex McCarthy is expected to be the long-term number one at Southampton and Forster, it seems, has seized his chance to potentially play Champions League football.

Forster has bags of experience at the top level and was a number one for Celtic previously. Capped by England, the giant stopper will bring know how and quality to a crucial position for Antonio Conte. And on a free, he will not be eating into the budget one bit.

TBR’s View: Fraser Forster Is Ideal For Tottenham On A Free

Talk about ideal short-term signings for Tottenham. Here, Conte is getting a top goalkeeper, for nothing, who will be happy to play back-up to Lloris. It really is the perfect signing.

Sure, Forster isn’t a huge name and isn’t going to be the sole reason Spurs are successful. But a good squad needs players prepared to muck in and do their job professionally and to a high standard. Forster will do that for Spurs.

For nothing, this is an astute move by Tottenham. With Lloris and the ‘outstanding‘ Forster, they’ll have two very good goalkeepers indeed.
