Report: Tottenham now keen on signing 'sensational' £35m Anthony Gordon in January
Tottenham remain keen on signing Everton forward, Anthony Gordon, as Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici put their plans together for January.
Gordon emerged as a target for Spurs and Chelsea over the summer but in the end he stayed with the Toffees.
However, Football London reports that Spurs are continuing to monitor Gordon ahead of January. The London outfit are looking to continue to strengthen in the winter window, and it seems Gordon is still on their radar.
Everton, of course, don’t want to sell and have been trying to tie Gordon down to fresh terms despite him having three years to run on his current deal. Football London claims that Tottenham like the idea of signing him, although there’s an appreciation that a deal in January is more difficult than a summer move.
Should Tottenham make a move, it’s unclear whether they’ll have a free run at signing Gordon or not. Back in September, it was claimed Newcastle put a bid of £35m in, only for Everton to rebuff their approaches.
FL reports that Everton are looking to recoup a similar fee to that which they got for Richarlison. Tottenham paid around £50m to land the Brazilian in the summer.
TBR’s View: Gordon will eventually end up leaving Everton
There is so much speculation around Gordon that you do feel that he will eventually move on. Whether or not that will be to Tottenham, though, is unclear.
Spurs do need those added options in attacking areas and with speculation mounting over the future of Heung-Min Son, there might be a spot open up in Spurs’ attack.
Everton, meanwhile, will want big money to sell Gordon at this stage. His contract means they hold the cards really and unless he forces the issue, the Toffees can stand firm.
However, Tottenham have showed they’re willing to spend money and if they do bid big for Gordon, then Everton might well be tempted at some point.
