Tottenham still 'really want' to sign Adama Traore from Wolves

Football journalist Dean Jones has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur still want to sign Adama Traore from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.

The 26-year-old Spaniard spent the second half of last season on loan at Barcelona. He started really well and played 17 games in total, but a return of zero goals and four assists just wasn’t enough to convince Xavi to sign him on a permanent deal.

Traore is now back at Wolves ahead of the start of the new season, but Bruno Lage’s side are happy to let him leave. The Athletic revealed not too long ago that the Wanderers will accept as little as £10 million for him, which makes the winger a very attractive option for many clubs.

Spurs have long been linked with a move for Traore, and that interest still remains, claims Jones.

Traore has entered the final year of his Wolves contract. If they don’t sell him now, they run the risk of losing him for nothing next year, which is why they’ve slashed their asking price.

Tottenham have wanted Traore for a while now and even made an attempt to sign him in January, but Barcelona beat them to his signature then. Now, they could potentially be the favourites.

Jones told GiveMeSport: “I think Adama Traore still would have to be considered for that slot. We know how much they (Tottenham) liked him.

“There are people involved in the set-up that really want Adama Traore and even would make him a priority because they think it’d be such a good fit.”

Traore, still only 26, is yet to enter the prime years of his career.

The Spaniard has already shown his quality in the Premier League, even against the bigger teams, with Jurgen Klopp once branding him as a player who is ‘undefendable’ at times.

Tottenham have had a fantastic transfer window so far. They’ve brought in six new players – the latest one being Djed Spence, who is expected to be their right wing-back for the better part of the next decade.

Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal have both struggled in that role, which makes a move for Traore very logical. He would fit in brilliantly in Conte’s system, and at just £10 million, he could prove to be one of the bargains of this window.
