Tottenham signing Sam Johnstone looks imperative amid Gollini reports

Tottenham Hotspur may well be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper at the end of the season, with reports this month claiming that some at Spurs have a concern about Pierluigi Gollini.

Signing Gollini looked to be an incredibly smart move in the summer. Hugo Lloris had actually ended last season in fine form. But his performances had dipped in the past. And he has turned 35 this month.

Gollini meanwhile, was impressive with Atalanta. And a loan move left Tottenham with the time to see whether the Italian would be able to take Lloris’ spot.

Unfortunately for Gollini, life in North London has not been easy. Lloris has continued his excellent form and could now sign a new contract. And reports this month hint that the former Aston Villa man will do well to earn a longer stay with Spurs.

The Athletic suggested that some at Tottenham had a concern about Gollini’s fitness. And with that, making his move permanent for £12.9 million may seem unlikely.

Obviously, should Gollini return to Italy in the summer, Tottenham will likely need to get a new goalkeeper in.

Tottenham must get Sam Johnstone deal done amid Gollini concerns

One name who has been heavily linked with the club is Sam Johnstone. And he would be available for less money than Gollini due to his West Brom contract expiring in the summer.

Recent reports have suggested that West Ham lead Tottenham in the race for the England international. But if Gollini is not sticking around, it seem imperative that Spurs do all they can to land Johnstone.

He is proven in the Premier League. He was West Brom’s best player during their most recent stint in the top-flight.

The Tottenham fans have been much more positive about Johnstone in the recent past. So replacing Gollini with Johnstone, while saving almost £13 million in the process, would be an inspired piece of business.

It certainly would not sit well with Tottenham supporters if Gollini returns to Atalanta, but Johnstone ultimately heads well.
