Report: Tottenham set to sign 'outstanding' international player after Levy green lights bargain deal

Tottenham are set to announce the signing of England goalkeeper, Sam Johnstone, after Daniel Levy gave the green-light to a deal for the West Brom man.

Johnstone is out of contract this summer and Spurs appear to have won the race, with The Mirror reporting how Daniel Levy sees the signing of Johnstone as the perfect summer deal. Levy apparently sees the goalkeeper as a bargain buy that can add quality to the squad.

Tottenham landing Johnstone will be seen as a coup by the club. Other Premier League clubs including West Ham had been keen on Johnstone, while Rangers were also said to have shown an interest in him.

Johnstone has made more than 160 appearances for West Brom and in that time has won three caps for England. Still just 29, the stopper will no doubt be keen as a perfect back up to Hugo Lloris in North London. Certainly, he’ll fill the void better than Pierluigi Gollini, who is expected to go back to Italy this summer.

Tottenham fans are looking forward to a busy summer this year. Despite looking like they might now miss out on the top four, Antonio Conte still wants new players, with plenty of new faces expected.

TBR’s View: Johnstone Is Brilliant For Tottenham For Nothing

Talk about the ideal free transfer. An experienced international goalkeeper who knows the league well, Sam Johnstone will fit in just nicely with Spurs.

Johnstone has been exceptional for West Brom over the years and his England caps are more than deserved. Dubbed as an ‘outstanding’ goalkeeper by Micah Richards, Spurs fans will be happy with this signing.

A move to Tottenham will appeal, too. Yes, he might be number one there. But with cup competitions and European football, he’s likely to get minutes along the way.
