Tottenham set to scout 24-year-old midfielder in top of the table clash this week

Tottenham Hotspur are admirers of Morten Hjulmand as the club prepare to send scouts to watch Sporting take on Benfica on Thursday.

It is a mouthwatering clash in the Primeira Liga tomorrow. Benfica currently top the table, two points clear of Ruben Amorim‘s side. However, Sporting do have a game in hand.

Unsurprisingly, a lot of eyeballs are going to be on the game. According to Dean Jones, writing for SportsLens, Tottenham are one of a number of Premier League sides sent to be represented at the game.

Jones suggested that a number of players are on the radar. But Morten Hjulmand is on Tottenham’s wishlist as they seemingly consider strengthening their options in the middle of the park.

“Hjulmand is a player that has caught the eye of Spurs while their former youth star [Marcus] Edwards is catching the eye of many top sides,” he wrote.

Potentially awkward moment

There could potentially be something of an awkward situation should Spurs make a move for the 24-year-old. It has been suggested that Hjulmand actually has an Arsenal tattoo on his arm.

Tottenham tackled Matt Doherty’s love of the Gunners head on when the right-back signed from Wolves. So you would imagine that they would acknowledge things if they did end up signing the midfielder at some point down the line.

Hjulmand has been a stalwart of the Sporting side this season, only missing one league game so far due to a suspension for receiving five yellow cards.

He is an international teammate of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. So you would think that any move would potentially push the 28-year-old closer to the exit given that he has struggled for starts this season.

One thing that is for sure, if Hjulmand does indeed have an Arsenal tattoo and then signs for Tottenham, he is going to need to hit the ground running.
