Tottenham scouted Dominik Livakovic at the World Cup - journalist
Journalist Ben Jacobs has told Chris Cowlin that Tottenham Hotspur scouted Dominik Livakovic during the World Cup as they consider potential long-term replacements for Hugo Lloris.
Spurs continue to consider what happens when the time comes to replace Lloris. Obviously, the captain has been a stalwart of the side for around a decade now. And he has been outstanding for much of that time.
However, Lloris is coming towards the twilight of his career. And with that, Tottenham are looking at potential options.
Tottenham scouted Livakovic at the World Cup
Interestingly, one of the other names he went on to mention is Livakovic – who shone for his country at the World Cup as they finished third in Qatar.
“The final name that I would mention that Tottenham scouted during the World Cup, along with a few other clubs – one of them was Chelsea, one of them was Ajax – is the Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, who was unlucky not to be the goalkeeper of the tournament,” he told Chris Cowlin.
Goalkeeper’s move may come too soon for Spurs
Livakovic’s stock certainly rose during the tournament. And it would appear that he is going to be on the move in some capacity during the January transfer window.
Another journalist, Ryan Taylor told his YouTube channel this week that he has been told that Livakovic will leave Dinamo Zagreb next month. He has also been linked with Leeds and Manchester United.
Jacobs went on to note that Spurs’ interest is not that advanced. They scouted him to see how consistent he could be on the bigger stages. So it would appear that they are not yet fully convinced about Livakovic.
But he is a player Spurs can potentially ask Ivan Perisic about. They are international teammates, having played together 36 times for the 2018 World Cup finalists. And Perisic suggested that he was a ‘great‘ goalkeeper while in Qatar.
But obviously with Lloris still in the ranks, a January move for a new goalkeeper is unlikely. So it does appear that Tottenham are likely to miss out with Livakovic set to move next month.
