Tottenham reportedly want 'magic' player Pochettino labelled the 'best in the world' four years ago

Tottenham reportedly want to sign Real Madrid ace Isco after the Spaniard endured a dismal 2020-21 campaign. The 38-time Spain international failed to score a single goal in 29 appearances for Madrid last season. Spurs are keen and Pochettino’s claim about Isco from 2017 will surely excite fans.

Four-time Champions League winner Isco has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu. After eight years at the club, and 336 appearances for Real Madrid – he is now set to leave this summer. The Mirror claim Spurs and Arsenal are keen, and Isco can go for just £6million.

Whether Isco will be tempted to leave Real Madrid, who have just hired Carlo Ancelotti – the man that signed Isco – remains to be seen. Like Gareth Bale, Isco may feel he has another lease of life at Madrid under Ancelotti. But a claim from Pochettino should convince Tottenham to sign Isco.

“Every manager wants to sign the very best and he is one of the best players in the world,” Pochettino told AS in 2017. “He is one of the best in the world. I have seen him at different clubs and his creativity is simply outside of the norm. He has fully matured. His magic is plain to see.”

Where would Isco fit at Tottenham, amid Pochettino comments?

While Isco is a sensational player and needs a bit of love to get him back to his best, do Tottenham actually need him? Dele Alli looks rejuvenated after working hard all summer, even before pre-season. The ex-MK Dons man is ready to rediscover his best form. Spurs will be hopeful he can do that.

It remains to be seen if Nuno Espirito Santo will play a formation that include Dele – and indeed, Isco. The benefit Isco has is that he is capable of playing out wide. If Spurs play a 3-4-2-1, which Wolves did on a regular basis, then he and Dele could even combine behind Harry Kane.

But Spurs would surely prefer to give Dele a chance after his work this summer, rather than sign Isco – who is on enormous wages?
