Tottenham reportedly want Belgium sensation that De Bruyne labelled 'a diamond in the rough' in 2020
Tottenham have reportedly joined Liverpool in the race to sign Rennes star Jeremy Doku – and both sets of fans will love Kevin De Bruyne’s verdict.
Doku, 19, is one of Europe’s most-exciting prospects. It comes after starting off at Anderlecht, producing 13 goal involvements in 37 games.
He moved to Rennes in the summer of 2020, and while he only netted two goals in 37 – Doku’s speed and strength is attracting English admirers.
“Nimble, fast and he can dribble. Of course he sometimes makes a mistake, but who doesn’t? A diamond in the rough,” De Bruyne told HLN last year.
De Bruyne on Doku: Wonderful signing for Tottenham or Liverpool
In the world of massive transfer fees, just over £40million for a player of Doku’s incredible potential is stunning business for either side.
Tottenham are being linked with a £40million move for Adama Traore. While he is an excellent player, is Doku the better move?
He is six years younger than Traore, but has many similar qualities. Power, strength, speed, goals, assists. The difference is Traore is proven in England.
If Tottenham – or indeed, Liverpool – were offered both Traore and Doku, then both have got to go for Doku. Especially, with both valued the same.
Who needs him most? Liverpool need to replace Xherdan Shaqiri but Tottenham need a better option than Steven Bergwijn.
