Tottenham Hotspur are now leading the race to sign Radu Dragusin during the January transfer window, with Atalanta said to be some way behind Spurs in the battle for the defender’s signature.

Radu Dragusin is attracting plenty of attention ahead of next month. The 21-year-old has been superb for Genoa this season, with Lazio proving to be the only team in the bottom-half of Serie A to have conceded fewer goals.

Tottenham scouted Dragusin last week and are ready to step up their interest in the £26 million-rated Romania international.

Calciomercato. It reports that it is Tottenham on pole position to sign Dragusin. Meanwhile, Atalanta have some catching up to do if they hope to win the battle.

The report adds that both Brighton and AC Milan are also admirers of the former Juventus starlet. But it is Spurs who find themselves in a great position to get a deal done.

Another inspired defender signing from Spurs?

Tottenham fans will hope that Dragusin proves to be another Micky van de Ven if they manage to get a deal across the line.

Van de Ven was a revelation in the Premier League in the opening months of the season. And Spurs’ decision to sign him was quickly vindicated.

It was remarkable how quickly the Dutchman adapted to playing in the Premier League. So Tottenham would be looking for Dragusin to do similar – particularly as he would be arriving midway through the campaign.

As reported by Goal, Dragusin has been compared with Virgil Van Dijk in the past. He is confident on the ball and reads the game extremely well.

So there is definitely the potential for a £26 million spend to prove to be a real bargain – if Tottenham manage to capitalise on their current position in the race.
