Alasdair Gold has labelled Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher as ‘unlikely’.

The Football.London journalist has provided the latest on Tottenham’s interest in Conor Gallagher, with Ange Postecoglou’s side searching for a new midfielder before next week’s deadline.

Spurs have already wrapped up deals for Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin while talks with Club Brugge over Antonio Nusa continue.

There have been suggestions that Spurs could test Chelsea’s resolve by making a late move to sign Gallagher next week.

David Ornstein has labelled Spurs’ interest in Gallagher as one to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday’s deadline.

But Gold feels a switch to north London for the 23-year-old this month is unlikely to happen.

Gallagher ‘unlikely’ to join Tottenham in January

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, Gold explained why he believes a move to Tottenham could be off the table for Gallagher.

“Conor Gallagher situation, that’s been rumbling on for so long,” Gold said. “Spurs are going to keep an eye out, see if there’s any late opportunity to sign him in the window.

“Right now, it’s looking unlikely. Let’s be honest, 23-year-old – he’s captaining Chelsea in every game at the moment, he’s playing almost every minute in every game for Chelsea right now.

“He wants to stay, Pochettino wants him to stay at Chelsea and sees him as a key part of the future at Chelsea.

“But yet, there’s still this suggestion that because of the Financial Fair Play stuff, Chelsea would accept the right price for him.

“I would stress, that the right price sounds like it’s very high. It doesn’t sound like the kind of value deal that Spurs would probably normally go for, especially as the fact he’s only got 18 months left in his contract.

“There has been talk about that he’s maybe had some discussions over a contract of some kind. But yeah, I think something would have to significantly change in the next couple of days for Conor Gallagher to end up coming anywhere near Tottenham Hotspur.”

Gold also stated that he believes Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future could be linked with Tottenham’s possible move for Gallagher.

The Dane has received interest from the likes of Juventus, Napoli and Newcastle United all keen.

Chelsea are set to demand at least £45 million for Gallagher this month, with suggestions they could cash in on their academy product in an attempt to land a new striker.

But it would be a surprise to see the Englishman make the switch across London, especially with Gallagher becoming a key player under Pochettino this term.

Spurs may be forced to wait until the summer to lure Gallagher away from Stamford Bridge.
