Tottenham and Conor Gallagher go hand in hand with each other in this transfer window and things are not quite going away just yet either.
The Chelsea midfielder has been linked with a move to Tottenham throughout the window.
Rumours suggest he is the main man Ange Postecoglou would like in his midfield. While further reports have suggested there’s no sign of a new deal with Chelsea, adding fuel to the fire.
And according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, there remains a chance that Gallagher does indeed end up a Tottenham player.

Conor Gallagher to Tottenham not over just yet
Speaking in his latest Q&A for The Athletic, Ornstein addressed the situation around Gallagher.
And while Tottenham would need a sale to get it done this month, the transfer has not entirely been ruled out by the journalist.
“No change yet. He’s set to be out of contract in June 2025 and therefore, ideally for Chelsea, he would sign a new deal or be sold. A new contract is not close at present and if a suitable offer for him was to arrive, Chelsea would very possibly sell. But that’s a big ‘if’, and it hasn’t happened so far,” Ornstein said.
“We know Tottenham are firm admirers; they tried to sign Gallagher last summer and perhaps they would like to do so again, but it would require a player such as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to be sold first and currently there doesn’t seem to be anything developing on that front. The ‘ideal’ situation is not a firm rule, so it’s plausible the window closes without either a new contract or sale — and right now Armando Broja is looking a more likely departure from Chelsea than Gallagher.
“To be clear, Chelsea are extremely fond of Gallagher as a player and character. He is an important part of coach Mauricio Pochettino’s plans, but we know there are other factors involved, so let’s see how the next week pans out.”
Too late now
Of course, a week in football is a long time but it does feel like there are too many plates to spin here to get it done before the window closes for January.
Tottenham would love to get the ‘very talented‘ Gallagher but as Ornstein says, it needs someone to go for decent money as well and that’s hard for them to do right now. Indeed a fee of around £50m has even been touted.
If there is a chance for Spurs to get their man, you can bet your bottom dollar they go for it.
But as of now, as Ornstein says, this one would take some moving and shaking to really get done in January.
