Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Djurgardens prodigy Lucas Bergvall in recent days.

On Tuesday afternoon, Sky Sports journalist James Green reported that Spurs were in pursuit of the 17-year-old midfielder.

Since then, however, Tottenham have very much been overtaken by Barcelona in the race for Bergvall.

Sky Sports provided a further update on Tuesday evening, suggesting Spurs haven’t given up on the young Swede.

However, Barca appear to have made significant progress on signing Bergvall. As per the report, he travelled to the Catalan city over a prospective move.

Djurgardens gave permission for him to visit the city and have lunch with Barca sporting director Deco along with members of his family, claimed the report.

In addition, Barcelona are reportedly willing pay £6million plus £2.5million in add-ons to to sign him at the end of the season.

However, Tottenham apparently remain interested in the player, potentially hoping to make the most of any hitches in negotiations.

Tottenham scouting network identifying great talents like Lucas Bergvall

Spurs have made quite a name for themselves in recent years with regards to signing talented gems and turning them into first-team stars.

Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie joined Tottenham as relative unknowns, but now they’re bona fide Premier League stars who look set for a great career in the game.

Let’s see whether anything happens on the Bergvall front. Should a move to Barca stall, then Spurs will surely be eager to pounce.

Despite being just 17 years of age, Bergvall registered 25 appearances and three goal contributions for Djurgardens last term.

He is a player who Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout likened to Ivan Rakitic and Joey Veerman, two solid midfielders who’ve had great careers so far.

Kulig also described Bergvall as a player who’s “elegant on the ball with a silky touch” and gave him an 8.5 out of 10 rating with regards to his potential.
