Tottenham may have been given a reason to hope Nottingham Forest are relegated this season

Although it’s rare for one side to wish relegation on another, Tottenham Hotspur may now hope that’s the fate for Nottingham Forest.

Having appointed former Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo, Forest are just four points clear of the relegation zone in 16th.

Nuno’s new side are just three points ahead of Everton, who have already been docked ten points this season.

And with Forest now potentially facing a point deduction themselves having been charged with breaking Profit and Sustainability Rules last week, Tottenham may have a vested interest in their relegation.

Daniel Levy saw a real opportunity in the summer to sign Brennan Johnson from the club at a price he considered to be a real steal.

Levy is known to see a huge opportunity in signing players from Spurs’ rivals who are enduring financial troubles.

And with new information from Mail Sport, it seems the club could profit from Forest once again.

Mail Sport have now reported that the majority of Forest’s Premier League squad do not have relegation release clauses in their contracts.

And given Spurs hold long-term interest in Morgan Gibbs-White, this could play into their hands.

Tottenham could sign Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White for a cut price if he faces relegation

Should Forest receive a point deduction and then struggle to avoid relegation, Spurs could profit.

There’s no doubt that it would cost a lot for Ange Postecoglou to sign Gibbs-White right now.

However, if Forest were back in the Championship with Gibbs-White’s current wages on their books, they may be forced to sell.

Daniel Levy made haste of Leicester City’s relegation this summer when executing a deal for James Maddison, and he could do the same if this situation unfolds.

Tottenham fans are unlikely to wish relegation on Forest – but they could really benefit from the situation if so.

Gibbs-White is a player who would perfectly suit Postecoglou’s squad, a versatile attacker across the front line.

And Brennan Johnson certainly wouldn’t be too disappointed if his former teammate rocked up.

That being said, Tottenham could actually prove their ambition by pushing for a cut-price signing this month as well.
