Report: Tottenham make enquiry for 'special' £30m Arsenal target as Raphinha alternative
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham have now made an enquiry about signing PSV Eindhoven winger, Cody Gakpo.
Gakpo, who is being monitored by both Arsenal and Leeds, is one of the most sought-after players in the Dutch league after a string of fine performances for PSV. The ‘special‘ 23-year-old is thought to be valued around the £30m mark by the Dutch side.
However, while Arsenal are known long-time admirers of Gakpo, Sky have claimed today that it is indeed Tottenham who have made the first move to land the 23-year-old.
Along with a host of players, Tottenham are big fans of Gakpo and are said to have asked about him. It comes as the chance of signing Leeds winger Raphinha seems to be getting tougher, with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona all in that particular race.
Tottenham are looking to land a host of new players this summer. The club have already signed three, with Yves Bissouma the headline grabber from their business so far. Fabio Paratici, though, is actively working on other new faces being brought in before August.
Gakpo scored more than 20 goals last season and is seen as one of the bright lights in the Eredivisie.
TBR’s View: Gakpo Is Certainly One For Tottenham Fans To Watch
The young forward ticks a lot of boxes and he will be getting a move away from PSV eventually. His quality is shining through over there and a move to a ‘bigger’ club and league is inevitable.
For Tottenham, they must weigh up whether he is better than what they have and whether he can be a difference maker or not.
On the surface, Gakpo’s numbers speak for themselves. But Conte will want someone to come in and really hit the ground running, and Raphinha might be the preferred target as things stand.
