Report: Tottenham have made the first move to sign 'outstanding' £47m player in January

A lot is being said about Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat at the moment but it appears that Tottenham are the ones to make the first move.

Amrabat has emerged as one of the stars of the World Cup and subsequently, is now a man in-demand. Tottenham and Liverpool are both thought to be keen over here in England.

And according to reports in Italy, it is Spurs who have made the first move. La Viola News reports how Tottenham have made a full enquiry with Fiorentina about a potential deal. The Serie A side are in a strong position, knowing that Amrabat’s excellent World Cup has seen his value sky rocket.

Amrabat has helped Morocco to be the first African nation to reach a semi-final and will be hoping to round off a good tournament by finishing third today.

The midfielder, lauded as ‘outstanding‘ by Joe Cole for his World Cup heroics, will not come cheap. Indeed, some reports have even seen Amrabat valued at around the £47m mark. A value that will surely put the likes of Spurs off.

However, a lower fee is likely to be possible. La Viola claims somewhere in the region of £30m is likely to get Fiorentina doing business.

TBR’s View: Amrabat and Hojbjerg a nightmare midfield

Well, it would be for opposition teams. At the moment, Hojbjerg and Bentancur do a fine job for Spurs. But signing Amrabat could give Antonio Conte the chance to play both the Moroccan and Hojbjerg and in turn free up Bentancur further up the pitch.

Amrabat hasn’t half had a brilliant tournament. There are always a few players who make their name and stand out in a World Cup. But the Fiorentina man has surpassed all expectation.

If Tottenham do indeed sign him, then there’ll be few grumbles from the fans.
