Report: Tottenham expected to agree to £16.7m deal involving 'magnificent' international player
Tottenham are increasingly likely to agree to a loan to buy deal to let Giovani Lo Celso leave, with both Napoli and Villarreal interested onlookers.
The Argentinian midfielder is out of the plans of Antonio Conte and has no shortage of suitors. Despite spending over £20m to sign him when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge, Lo Celso has often flattered to deceive in a Spurs shirt and has failed to produce the form he shows for Argentina.
A loan move to Villarreal worked out well last year. But Napoli are keen, and the Italian club are pondering what sort of deal they can put together, according to Calciomercato. Their report claims that as things stand there is no club in pole position and the longer time ticks by, the more inclined Tottenham will be to accept a loan to buy deal.
It’s believed Spurs will demand around £16.7m for the ‘magnificent‘ Lo Celso. It will mean a loss on their initial outlay but, of course, will see another player cleared off the wage bill. And after spending £100m this summer, Tottenham do need to look at bringing some cash back into the coffers.
TBR’s View: Lo Celso Needs To Leave Tottenham
Lo Celso is like a number of players at Tottenham in that it’s not that he isn’t a good footballer, more just that he’s not quite right for Antonio Conte. And at the moment, that’s the master plan for Spurs. Everyone has to follow Conte’s lead, or else there is no point.
For Lo Celso himself, both Napoli and Villarreal will be decent options. Two big clubs who compete in and around Europe and can help him get back to his best.
Sometimes, a signing just doesn’t quite work out and that appears to be the case when it comes to Lo Celso and Tottenham.
