Report: Tottenham could now sign 'very promising' Qatar 2022 defender instead of Bastoni

Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a move for yet another defender as their search for new faces continues, this time in the form of Piero Hincapie.

According to The Sun, Tottenham like the look of Hincapie, as they seek to add a left-sided defender to their ranks before the end of the transfer window. The 20-year-old Ecuadorian has just enjoyed a fine season with Bayer Leverkusen, and is due to play in Qatar this winter with his country.

Labelled as a player who looks to have a ‘very promising‘ career ahead of him, Hincapie can play both the centre-back and left-back roles if needed.

The Sun writes how Leverkusen will demand around £34m for Hincapie, if they are to sell, of course. That sort of figure won’t put Tottenham off in terms of the amount, although there might be some caution given his lack of experience and the other players out there on the market.

Hincapie is just the latest name to be given a link to Spurs. It comes after a move for Alessandro Bastoni appears to be all but dead. Other players, such as Josko Gvardiol and Evan Ndicka have also been mentioned.

TBR’s View: Hincapie Fits The Bill But Tottenham Need To Get This Right

Piero Hincapie certainly looks to be a top talent. He has all the makings of a top defender at European level and the World Cup will be a big chance for him to show his credentials.

For Tottenham, though, there’ll surely be some caution when it comes to paying such a sum for the Ecuadorian. £34m seems a big chunk of change for someone so young and with little top level experience. Naturally, on the other hand, you could argue it’s a long-term investment.

However, there might be better names out there than Hincapie for Conte for the here and now.
