Bryan Gil hasn’t exactly enjoyed a brilliant time at Tottenham since moving to north London but things might have been different.
The young Spanish winger has barely featured since signing for just over £20m back in 2021. Signed at the time as one of the brightest prospects in Spain, Gil has simply found it hard going at Tottenham under different managers.
Antonio Conte hasn’t started him once this season. He did enjoy a good cameo against Sporting the other night, but he’s also been tipped to leave the club in January as well. Following that cameo, former Spurs ace Pascal Chimbonda tipped Gil to start for Tottenham v Bournemouth this week.
However, according to The Athletic, things might have been different for Gil. According to their report on the Spaniard today, it’s claimed that Tottenham insiders were buzzing about the potential of Gil when Nuno Santo was in charge.

It’s suggested that a performance at Wolves in the Carabao Cup left those at Spurs raving about him. Since then, as we all know, Gil has simply not been given the chances to show his worth.
Gil spent all of last season out on loan and has only been given the odd chance recently under Conte due to Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison being injured. Indeed, Conte had even hinted that he might have to play himself, and failed to namecheck Gil at the time.
TBR’s View: Gil needs to leave Tottenham even if he starts v Bournemouth
He might have had a nice enough cameo the other night but at the end of the day, Gil’s spell in north London has been nothing short of miserable.
Conte just doesn’t seem to fancy him and Gil needs to seek a move for his own good. He’s obviously a good enough player to produce the goods. It might just be that Spurs, or even the Premier League, isn’t for him.
Gil was brought in as a player to make a difference in the attacking third. But as it stands, he’s simply wasting his time with Tottenham.
