Tottenham Hotspur have a deadline to sign a really promising player on the continent.

The Lilywhites have recruited talented teenagers Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall this summer with South Korean winger Yang Min-hyuk set to join them in the coming days.

They’re continuing that trend and are now looking at another promising overseas player who has been of interest to Real Madrid.

It’s thought he has a £21m release clause which expires next month, so the clock is ticking for Tottenham.

Tottenham remain interested in Joan Garcia

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur are one of the most interested suitors in Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who has been labelled ‘promising’ per Arsenal Insider.

Real Madrid and Arsenal are also thought to be keeping tabs on Garcia’s situation, so it won’t be an easy deal to do for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Garcia has a £21m release clause currently active in his contract but that will expire on August 15, so time is ticking.

It’s understood a new clause will begin which will stand at £25m with the scope to become £29m if he receives a call-up to the Spanish national team – which is a genuine possibility.

Joan Garcia to challenge Guglielmo Vicario

If Tottenham were to shell out in excess of £20m on Garcia’s signature, clearly he’s joining as much more than an understudy to Guglielmo Vicario.

The 23-year-old shot-stopper is being tipped for a really bright future, so he’s expected to provide competition to Vicario for the number-one spot.

The growing trend in football these days is to have rotating goalkeepers, so perhaps that’s an ideology, too.

In other news, the agent of a £42m striker is set to hold talks with Tottenham later this week.
