Tottenham might well be active in January but one player they now won’t be signing is Brentford striker, Ivan Toney.

Toney is said to be a target for a number of clubs in the winter window. Reports have suggested that Arsenal were keen but are now not going to pursue their interest. The Gunners have been urged to sign Toney by more than one pundit as they look to chase Man City down.

Tottenham, too, have been credited with having an interest in Toney.

But according to a report from Football Transfers today, Spurs are set to be the latest club to pull out of the race for Toney.

The report claims that Tottenham are put off by the asking price for Toney. Brentford are wanting close to £100m for their star striker, although a fee closer to £60m has also been mentioned.

Toney returns to football in January and will be looking to hit the ground running ahead of making a late push to be part of the England squad for the Euros.

Tottenham won’t be signing Ivan Toney

It always seemed a bit of a long shot anyway for Tottenham when it came to signing Ivan Toney.

The big striker has so many admirers that for Spurs to make the best pitch they’d need the biggest pot of money, as well as being able to guarantee some European football.

At the moment, that’s not where Tottenham sit in the pecking order and Toney will have the pick of the bunch when it comes to picking his next club.

Of course, if Spurs can get in the mix somehow and show Toney they can be the club for him, then he’d be a remarkable signing.

Since Harry Kane left, there has been a gaping void really, despite Heung-Min Son’s fine form.

Richarlison is wanted by clubs in Saudi Arabia and has struggled for goals, while new signing Brennan Johnson is not the finished article either.

Toney, then, would make a huge difference for Tottenham.
