Tottenham’s plans to sign a new defender appear to be ramping up, with Jean-Clair Todibo the name being mentioned a lot.
Todibo has emerged as a key target for Spurs. Reports have suggested that the club have started talks with Todibo over a move to north London in January.
Further, Todibo is also believed to be keen on joining Tottenham if they can put the right deal together with Nice.
And in another twist in the story, the Evening Standard now reports that Spurs have actually made some guarantees to Todibo.
Tottenham tell Jean-Clair Todibo he’ll be playing a big part
According to the report from The Standard, Tottenham have started talks with Todibo and his reps and have even spoken to him about his role in the team.
With Micky van de Ven back in early 2024 and Cristian Romero not going anywhere, Todibo might be wondering what his role in the team will be.

However, it’s claimed that Spurs have told the Frenchman that he will play a big role in the first-team and with that, be part of proceedings from the off.
It means Ange Postecoglou is likely to use the defender as part of either a three at a back system, or even as a more solid option in a back four. Of course, only the Spurs boss knows the answer to that.
Tottenham getting closer
These sorts of story don’t get out if there isn’t something progressing with a deal. Todibo to Spurs is clearly something that is in the pipeline.
Tottenham, it seems, are getting their act together quickly here and it looks like Todibo is the player Ange is pushing hard for.
At £40-43, Todibo won’t be coming cheap. However, Spurs are in need of another defender and given they’re in the mix for the top four, January feels crucial.
Todibo, then, could be worth the spent.
