Tottenham fans react as report claims unnamed English side battling Arsenal to sign Ajax's Andre Onana

Goal reporter Charles Watts has claimed on his YouTube channel that Arsenal face competition from other English clubs in the race to sign Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana. The identity of those sides were left unnamed – and Tottenham fans have reacted, hoping that their club wants Onana.

Onana, 25, is currently serving a ban for taking a banned substance. The Cameroon international claims he took one of his wife’s weight loss pills when he thought it was aspirin. That saw him banned for 12 months from February, but following an appeal, has been shortened to nine.

It means Onana will be available to take part from November. His ban does not prevent him from moving clubs and Ajax are ready to cash in on the cheap. Goal have previously claimed that Arsenal are keen and that the Gunners would need to pay just £7million. Watts has now given an update.

What are Tottenham fans saying about Arsenal target Onana?

“But the thing is, and the thing they’re going to have to be very wary of is there’s lots of interest as far as I’m aware in Onana. There’s interest from clubs in England, and from abroad as well,” Watts said on YouTube. The identitiy of these English clubs remains hidden, though.

Tottenham could do with a goalkeeper. Captain Hugo Lloris is in the last 12 months of his Spurs deal and is unlikely to see that renewed. So, a younger stopper could be brought to North London in place of Lloris and Onana certainly fits the bill. West Ham and Leicester also need goalkeepers.

Indeed, Lukasz Fabianski and Kasper Schmeichel are certainly getting on a bit. But Tottenham fans are desperate to hear that the unnamed club includes themselves as an option for Onana – especially having been linked in the past. One fan thinks he is perfect for Spurs under Paulo Fonseca.
