Tottenham fans react as club reportedly battling Everton to sign Euro 2020 midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur are one of four clubs reportedly looking to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha. They face competition from Everton, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla for the Euro 2020 Portugal star’s signature. Tottenham fans have responded to the reports on Palhinha.

Palhinha, 25, sparkled in Portuguese football last season. Missing just four of Sporting’s 42 games in all competitions, the five-time Portugal international guided Sporting to the Liga NOS title – pipping Jan Vertonghen’s Benfica and Porto. He was excellent in defensive midfield.

Also able to play at centre-back, he was a squad player included in Portugal’s 26-man squad for Euro 2020. While William Carvalho and Joao Moutinho are preferred for their experience, Palhinha did impress in his 45 minutes against France. Because of that, Tottenham are now keen.

Portuguese newspaper Record claim that Tottenham and Everton are both interested in signing Palhinha. However, the North Londoners and managerless Toffees face competition because Spanish big-hitters Atleti and Sevilla are keen. Tugascout say Palhinha has a £51.5million release clause.

So, Tottenham fans have reacted on Twitter, after the reports Spurs want to win the race for Palhinha’s signature. He could cost a club-record fee if title winners Sporting want his entire release clause, but many believe he would be a stunning signing for the North Londoners.
