Tottenham fans Portugal player's display at Euro 2020, amid reports Spurs are keen
Joao Palhinha failed to prevent Portugal losing 1-0 to Belgium in the last 16 at Euro 2020 on Sunday. Thorgan Hazard scored the only goal of the game, despite Portugal dominating the second half, Belgium held firm. Tottenham fans watched on as Palhinha started, amid reports Spurs are keen.
With Netherlands having suffered a shock exit at the hands of the Czech Republic – largely thanks to a red card for Matthijs de Ligt – another big name was set to exit on Sunday. Portugal stuttered out of their group and met a side in Belgium who had won all three matches.
A bit of a surprise was Palhinha, 25, starting in the middle of the park. Beforehand, the Sporting Lisbon title winner had only played one half against France beforehand. But he was thrown into the mix against Belgium, tasked with keeping the likes of Kevin De Bruyne quiet.
What have Tottenham fans said about Palhinha and his display for Portugal?
The winner came from an unlikely source in Hazard, and with Palhinha on a yellow – he was taken off after 78 minutes and replaced by Danilo Pereira. His form in Liga NOS has certainly attracted many, with Spurs among those that are interested in Palhinha. The Record claim Everton are also keen.
As are Atletico Madrid and Sevilla. Tugascout say he has a release clause worth a little over £50million, at £51.5million. Whether Sporting would request that fee or a slightly more realistic one – remains to be seen. But Tottenham fans have raved about Palhinha and his display for Portugal.
