Tottenham fans discuss Matthijs de Ligt transfer reports

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to react to reports claiming that Spurs have now made it clear in the last few days that they want to sign Matthijs de Ligt.

De Ligt looks to be facing an uncertain future with Juventus. He has not had the easiest time since moving to Turin for £67.8 million from Ajax. And the Old Lady are now open to letting him leave.

Barcelona and Chelsea are both admirers. But Sport in Spain has reported that Tottenham also want to sign the Dutchman. In fact, it was suggested that Spurs have informed Juve about their willingness to bid ‘very hard’ to get him.

The report noted that Juve would accept a fee close to £42.3 million for de Ligt. That would be quite a surprise given the potential he possesses. Certainly, he has the ability to make that fee look a bargain in the years to come.

Unsurprisingly, there is a real mix amongst the Tottenham fans on social media. Some simply cannot believe that there is any chance of de Ligt moving to Antonio Conte’s side in one of the coming windows.

Tottenham have certainly made progress. But de Ligt is considered one of the most talented, young centre-backs in Europe. So joining a side not currently in the Champions League would be a surprise.
