Tottenham fans discuss Bryan Gil cameo role as Spain draw Egypt in Olympics opener
Bryan Gil was handed the last 20 minutes as Spain failed to beat Egypt in the first men’s football clash at this summer’s Tokyo Olympics. A low defensive block from Egypt proved too much for Spain – even after the introduction of Gil. Tottenham fans reacted on Twitter to his display.
Tottenham are reportedly closing in on a move to sign the 20-year-old talent from Sevilla. Fabrizio Romano initially broke the news, stating a player-plus-cash deal had been struck with the Spanish side. It sees Erik Lamela go the other way – with a report since stating Lamela has a three-year deal.
Reports claim that Gil has now signed a five-year deal with Tottenham worth as much as £41,500 a week. Lamela goes the other way, as does a fee of around £21.6million.
What are Tottenham fans saying about Gil and his Spain display?
In a star-studded Spain side, Gil started the match against Egypt on the bench. The Spaniards boasted Dani Olmo, Pedri, Dani Ceballos, Pau Torres and more – but could not find their way past Egypt. Gil was introduced for the final 20 minutes and looked exciting, and very direct.
He lost the ball a few times but only because he was trying to take the game to Egypt and go past players. On a couple of occasions, he lost possession but his work rate saw him win the ball back. Tottenham fans liked what they saw from Gil, raving about him on Twitter after Spain drew.
