When Tottenham Hotspur signed Djed Spence in the summer transfer window, nobody would’ve expected him to have the kind of season he is having.
Spurs secured the talented young defender’s signature in a deal worth up to £20 million (Sky Sports). He had an incredible campaign with Nottingham Forest last season, and many expected him to have a big impact in North London as well.
Sadly, he has barely got an opportunity to show what he’s all about.

Tottenham defender Djed Spence is ‘frustrated’ under Antonio Conte at Spurs
Right after Spence joined Tottenham in the summer, Antonio Conte made it clear that it wasn’t him that sanctioned the move, it was the club.
“Spence is an investment of the club. The club wanted to do it,” he said, as quoted by talkSPORT.
Little did we know then that the Italian would barely give Spence any opportunities. The 22-year-old has played a grand total of 28 minutes of football in all competitions this season.
That’s not enough at all for a player as talented as Spence, and journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that the youngster is really frustrated with life at Spurs at the moment.
He told GiveMeSport: “I think he’ll definitely be frustrated. He probably didn’t envisage this move happening the way it’s sort of going right now for him at Tottenham.
“He would’ve expected more minutes, more first-team opportunities.
“Tottenham obviously spent quite heavily in the summer to land him and they beat quite a few clubs to his signature as well.”

He could leave Spurs on loan
Just 28 minutes of game time since the start of the season is a shocking return for any player.
The thing that makes it even harder to accept is the fact that Spurs’ two right wing-backs – Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty – have had their fair share of struggles on the pitch.
Spence, branded as an ‘unbelievable’ player, deserved more opportunities, but since that didn’t arrive, it’s very likely that he will leave the club on loan in the coming days.
ESPN revealed this week that as many as four Premier League clubs are keen to sign him, while German side Bayer Leverkusen are also interested in his services for the second half of the season.
