Football journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could ‘definitely’ sign Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea before the transfer window shuts tonight.

Spurs have been relatively quiet on transfer deadline day today compared to some of the other clubs. However, they could still surprise people by signing a hugely talented player from one of their fierce London rivals in the next few hours.

Ziyech has been the surprise name linked with a move to Tottenham over the last few days.

Transfers between Chelsea and Spurs are extremely rare, but there has been a lot of talk about the Moroccan leaving Stamford Bridge to join Antonio Conte’s side before the window shuts tonight.

That has been backed by Phillips, who has claimed that there’s ‘definitely’ a chance that Tottenham could complete a deal for Ziyech in the coming hours.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “There is a chance, but Chelsea want a permanent deal. And they have been in talks with Tottenham today over Ziyech, and there’s definitely a chance that could happen.

“But it all depends on Chelsea getting that second attacker as well. So, it’s kind of a domino effect on that one.”

If it happens, Ziyech to Spurs could be one of the biggest surprises of this summer’s transfer window.

The Moroccan is a fantastic player. Even though things haven’t really worked out for him following his £33.3 million move to Chelsea in 2020 (Sky Sports), he has the quality to become a superstar at a different club.

Spurs could do with a number 10. They are an incredible team on the counter-attack, but they do struggle to break down clubs that sit back and defend deep.

Ziyech, branded as an ‘unreal’ footballer, would be the perfect player to unlock such defences, and he would be amazing behind the likes of Son Heung-min, Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski.

However, with just a few hours left in the transfer window, it will not be easy for Tottenham to get a deal done for a reasonable price.
