Tottenham could now sign £13m defender for free

Tottenham Hotspur could be in line for a boost in their search for new defenders with news emerging that Tosin Adarabioyo is set to leave Fulham.

Adarabioyo is into the final six months of his contact at Craven Cottage. As yet, there is no sign of him penning a new deal.

Of course, reports recently have suggested Tottenham want to sign the former Man City man.

And in what could be a big boost for Spurs’ hopes of landing the defender, it’s now reported that Adarabioyo will indeed wind his contract down.

According to The Sun, Adarabioyo will now see out his current deal with the Cottagers rather than sign a new one.

It’s claimed that Fulham still expected to see the ‘exceptional‘ Adarabioyo stay put in January, albeit there is now an acceptance he will move on.

For Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou, news of Adarabioyo’s departure from the Cottage will be music to the ears.

Whether or not they decide to make a discounted move for him in January and beat the rush to sign him, remains to be seen.

However, it’s clear there could be an open run at this for Spurs now, who are looking for defensive reinforcements after the injury to Micky van de Ven.

One to watch in January

Any player who is running down a contract is always worth keeping tabs in a transfer window.

Players and clubs will be essentially playing cat and mouse and it would be no surprise here to see Spurs, or even someone else, try and tempt Fulham into cashing in.

For now, Marco Silva seems happy with his man. Adarabioyo played a key role in getting the Cottagers to the cup final in midweek and there’s no rush to see him leave just yet.

But if Tottenham come knocking, and Adarabioyo fancies the move as well, then this one might just get over the line as January ticks along.

Either way, it seems like Adarabioyo is on his way from Fulham.
