Report: Tottenham told 'world-class' player will cost just £8m, days after Conte green-lighted the deal
Tottenham could get a bargain signing in the form of Clement Lenglet, with reports in Spain claiming Barcelona will sell for just £8m this summer.
Sport have reported how Lenglet is one of a number of Barcelona players on the move this summer, with the Catalan club trying to move on certain fringe players to free up budget within the squad. Lenglet is one of them, having featured less than ten times for the Spanish club this season.
And in what seems like an interesting proposition for Spurs, Sport has claimed that Barca are seeking around just £8m for Lenglet to do a deal. It comes just a day or so after reports suggested Antonio Conte had already given Fabio Paratici the green light to go and sign Lenglet.
Despite being dubbed as a potentially ‘world class’ player by Didier Deschamps, Lenglet hasn’t quite had the impact he will have wanted at Barca. He’s down the pecking order at the club, with other players well ahead of him in terms of the starting XI.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are determined to have a strong summer. A number of new signings could arrive, with Conte set to be backed by Daniel Levy.
TBR’s View: Lenglet A Bargain But A Risky Signing For Tottenham
There is a reason why Barcelona are so keen to get rid of Clement Lenglet and that has to be a worry for Tottenham really here. Sure, the £8m price is a bit of a bargain. But he’s hardly played, and that suggests he’s not going to improve Antonio Conte’s side instantly.
Realistically, Tottenham need to be looking at bigger and better targets than Clement Lenglet. As a last resort, yes, he might be a useful signing.
But Conte wants players to make a big impact immediately, and there are question marks over whether Lenglet does that.
