Report: Conte has given green light for Tottenham to move for 'world-class' Barcelona player
Tottenham Hotspur have been in contact with Barcelona over Clement Lenglet, according to Sport.
The Spanish outlet claims Spurs boss Antonio Conte has given his approval to the potential deal.
Tottenham are likely to bolster their ranks significantly this summer to kick on from this season.
Spurs are currently favourites for a top-four place.
The added workload of the Champions League would mean Tottenham will need more quality and strength in depth.
Meanwhile, Sport – via Sport Witness – says Barca want to move Lenglet on this summer.
The newspaper says Lenglet is not in Xavi’s plans, and they want his £97,000-a-week wages off the books.
Although Barca are prioritising a transfer, they are apparently opening up to the possibility of a loan deal.
They are reportedly struggling to find someone willing to pay a ‘fair price’, because of the Frenchman’s big wages.
Spurs have apparently asked about Lenglet’s situation.
Tottenham would reportedly only be interested in a loan deal until the end of next season, but with a possible purchase option.
While Barcelona are apparently open to this deal, they are are ‘sounding out’ other clubs in the hope of improving the figures they can get.
Conte has ‘given the okay’ to the operation so long as the economic conditions are ‘optimal’ for the club, added the report.
Can Tottenham land ‘world-class’ defender?
Lenglet has not always been able to hold down a regular spot in the side at Barcelona.
But he has the potential to be a solid signing for Tottenham.
The former Sevilla star was previously described as ‘world-class‘ by Didier Deschamps.
And at his age, he is heading into what should be the peak years of his career.
Spurs could do with bolstering their defensive ranks and Lenglet seems to fit the bill.
