Tottenham Hotspur are in serious need of defensive reinforcements in the winter transfer window.
At centre-back in particular, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s injuries have forced Ange Postecoglou to play Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray as a defensive duo; with several teams feasting upon their frailties at the back.
Tottenham have shipped a startling 35 goals in 22 games in the Premier League this season, conceding three in their last game against Everton as they lost 3-2 which exposed their leaky defence once again.
Sitting in 15th place in the league table, the Lilywhites are in desperate need of a degree of solidity at the back. It seems like Tottenham are in the market to sign a defender at the very least.
Tottenham were in talks to sign Milan Skriniar, who has been out of favour at Paris Saint-Germain under Luis Enrique for months.
However, Galatasaray could beat Tottenham for Skriniar’s signature as TBR Football revealed they are in the lead.

Tottenham interested in signing Juventus target Thomas Kristensen
Tottenham are interested in Patrick Dorgu as well, who has held talks over a move to Manchester United this month.
Spurs find themselves in an injury crisis and it is imperative for them to bolster this squad by bringing in some fresh faces after having signed Antonin Kinsky earlier this month.
The Daily Mail have revealed that Tottenham have shortlisted Udinese centre-back Thomas Kristensen as they are desperate to bolster their struggling defence.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 15 | 22 | 7 | 3 | 12 | 45 | 35 | 10 | 24 |
Juventus’ sporting director Cristiano Guintoli has been in talks with the 23-year-old’s camp.
Leicester City are also believed to be huge admirers of the Danish defender and opened talks to sign him last month.
The Foxes’ interest should not be as much of a concern for the Lilywhites as opposed to the Italian giants.
After all, Randal Kolo snubbed Tottenham to join Juventus as a loan move for him is imminent.
Thiago Motta persuaded Kolo Muani to join Juventus and effectively snub a loan stint at Spurs.
Tottenham target Thomas Kristensen stats
As a result, Juventus having already initiated discussions to start Kristensen could be a worry for Tottenham.
Regardless, here are the Aarhus-born defender’s statistics from the past 365 days.
| THOMAS KRISTIANSEN STATS OVER THE PAST 365 DAYS | PER 90 |
| TACKLES | 1.42 |
| INTERCEPTIONS | 1.09 |
| AERIALS WON | 2.89 |
| PROGRESSIVE PASSES | 3.17 |
| PASS COMPLETITION % | 78% |
| PROGRESSIVE CARRIES | 1.04 |
Tottenham will closely be assessing how Kristensen’s numbers compare to that of both Romero and Van de Ven.
| STATS PER 90 OVER THE PAST 365 DAYS | CRISTIAN ROMERO | MICKY VAN DE VEN |
| TACKLES | 2.12 | 1.56 |
| INTERCEPTIONS | 1.35 | 0.99 |
| AERIALS WON | 3.12 | 1.81 |
| PROGRESSIVE PASSES | 4.93 | 4.98 |
| PASS COMPLETITION % | 90.7% | 92.5% |
| PROGRESSIVE CARRIES | 0.90 | 0.7 |
It is clear to see that Romero and Van de Ven look like much better passers of the ball than Kristiansen, which is a hugely important characteristic for any centre-back in Ange Postecoglou’s side.
However, unlike Tottenham, Udinese do not play in as much of a possession-based system.
Out of possession, while Kristiansen’s numbers are superior to those of Van de Ven, the former has had to defend far more in a struggling Udinese side this season, who finished 15th last season.
Whether Tottenham decide Kristiansen is certainly their man will be interesting to see.
But it goes without saying that at this point, Spurs simply need depth at the back as they could very well be dragged down to a relegation dogfight if their results remain as dire as they have been in recent weeks.
