Tottenham Hotspur reportedly had doubts over James Maddison’s fitness even before the Chelsea game on Monday evening.
That’s according to The Telegraph, with the outlet sharing an update on Maddison after the midfielder was forced off in the defeat to Chelsea.
It was a nightmare 90 minutes for Tottenham on Monday evening as they fell to a 4-1 defeat to their London rivals.
But the scoreline will be the least of Ange Postecoglou’s concerns at the moment as he lost several key players in what was a chaotic opening 45 minutes.
Cristian Romero was sent off before James Maddison and Micky van de Ven were both forced off with injuries, while Destiny Udogie was also shown red in the second-half.

While Van de Ven’s injury appears to be more serious than Maddison’s, the Englishman was been playing through pain this season.
And it seems that Spurs had concerns over his fitness heading into the Chelsea game this week.
Tottenham had concerns over Maddison’s fitness pre-Chelsea game
The Telegraph reports that Maddison had been carrying the ankle injury that forced him off against Chelsea prior to the game.
It’s noted there was ‘some doubt’ over whether or not the Englishman would be fit enough to start from the off in the London derby.
Of course, he was eventually by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at the end of the first half after going down in some discomfort.

Maddison has enjoyed a brilliant start to life at Tottenham but it would probably be for the best if he missed out against Wolves.
The midfielder is crucial to this Spurs side and Jermain Defoe has already lauded him as an ‘unbelievable’ signing.
The former Leicester City star has been forced off with knocks a couple of times this season and Spurs can’t risk losing him for the longer-term.
Fortunately for Postecoglou, Rodrigo Bentancur has recently returned from a lengthy layoff and he could help to fill that creative void on Saturday.
